Spanish Moon ready to shine at Royal Ascot

By Burnaby
Thursday, 3 July 2008

Spanish Moon can shine again after a poor run at Royal Ascot by taking the William Ewart Properties Gala Stakes at Sandown tomorrow night.

The lightly-raced four-year-old was sent off 3-1 second-favourite for the Hardwicke Stakes on the back of making a successful return at Ascot in May.

However, supporters of Sir Michael Stoute's charge probably knew their fate just before the off when he got too warm and played up at the start.

He then proceeded to run too free in the early stages and eventually finished sixth behind Macarthur.

Obviously capable of much better in a career blighted with injury, Spanish Moon can take this opportunity to show his true worth now that he is dropped back in trip and grade.

Moss Likely can also put a disappointing performance at the Royal meeting behind her when she turns out for the aAim Dragon Stakes. for trainer Mick Channon.

The juvenile filly was well beaten in the Windsor Castle Stakes won by 100-1 outsider Flashmans Papers, but she was drawn on the unfavoured far side and is capable of much better.

She is much better judged on her previous run at Newbury where she held April Pride by a neck.

It is not difficult to see the grey, who has also scored at Lingfield, getting her head back in front in this Listed contest.
