Bangor Lily blossoms and leaves them trailing in wake

By Robert Fenton

Bangor Lily has flowered in brilliant fashion in recent weeks and the black bitch was an easy winner of the inaugural Hee Haws Sheriff@Stud & DTSC Northern Ireland Oaks at Drumbo Park.

It was a case of two races - Lily out on her own down the far side and the rest battling for the minor honours after bumping at the first bend caused by Abbylea Rocket hitting Baltovin Maxi.

The race was over entering the back straight as Lily careered away for an easy 12 lengths triumph in a sparkling 28.42 seconds. It was a ding-dong battle for second with Tycoon Gadget getting up to deny Brian a one-two by pipping Take The Call by a short-head.

Two semi-finals of an A 3 contest were also concluded over 525.

Surprise Pup came from off the pace to win the first heat in a solid 28.84 secs.

Veteran Aulton Jacko put up a highly creditable show in winning a tight second semi.

A black dog owned jointly by Newry's Ciaran Havern and Oliver Shields, he flashed out only to be headed into the bend by Tanderagee Lad.

The Lad opened up a lead of four lengths going down the far side and then checked but regained his momentum to still be in front turning for the final stretch. However, Aulton had the better finishing power and prevailed close home by a length in 29.01. It was a similar distance back to Tornaroy Thor in third.
