Conti could still be King

By Graham Clark

Paul Nicholls is not completely ruling out Silviniaco Conti - second to Valseur Lido in last month's feature JNWine.com Champion Chase at the Down Royal Festival - bidding for a third victory in the King George VI Chase at Kempton.

The 10-year-old claimed the Boxing Day showpiece in 2013 and 2014, but was pulled up when chasing the hat-trick 12 months ago.

Nicholls said: "I'm going to confirm him at the five-day stage, but if they're all in it he won't go.

"We'll keep our options open. We will leave him in next week and make a decision nearer the time.

"If Thistlecrack didn't run and there were only five or six in it, we might be tempted, as he's won the race before and he likes the track, but I just want to look at it first.

"I don't think they need to be worrying about us on this year's form."
