Dawn has Christmas spirit

Wednesday, 9 December 2009

Christmas has proved the season to be jolly for Derrymore Dawn in the past and the five-year-old will be out to win the www.fairyhouseracecourse.ie Handicap Hurdle at the Co Meath track tomorrow.

Derrymore Dawn, now trained by Crossgar’s Colin McBratney, won the Irish Racing Annual Beginners Chase at Downpatrick just a few days before last Christmas but had a disappointing run at Fairyhouse in October, finishing 15th of 16.

Banbridge trainer Mayne Kidd runs Sir Quigley in the same Fairyhouse race tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Dungannon trainer Jim Lambe sends the promising Drumbaloo to Navan this weekend, the five-year-old seeking a fourth successive victory when competing in the Ladbrokes Future Champions Flat Race on Sunday.

Drumbaloo won the Archie Watson Memorial Flat Race at last month’s Down Royal Festival, following up victory at Hereford — with champion jockey Tony McCoy on board — on its track debut in September.

Drumbaloo’s previous win had come at Kirkistown Point-to-Point in November last year after falling at Limavady points the previous month.

Horse Racing Ireland last night announced there will be a replacement National Hunt meeting at Clonmel on December 17 after last Sunday's meeting was abandoned due to waterlogging.

Lingfield's hurdle course has become unraceable due to waterlogging and the Surrey track will now hold an all chase and bumper card on Saturday.

Blame for this awful mess lies squarely with Capello

Unusually for Fabio Capello, a man who owns some highly valued pieces of art but is not given to too many flights of poetic fancy, he once said that he had a dream. It was right at the start of his England reign and it was that he would lead his team into the final of the World Cup in Johannesburg.
