Emulous too good in Brownstown

Emulous made short shrift of top weight to take the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Brownstown Stakes at Fairyhouse.

Dermot Weld's filly defeated subsequent Windsor Forest Stakes winner Lolly For Dolly on her previous start at the Curragh, and was not hard pressed in taking a second Group Three prize on the spin.

Pat Smullen's mount was handily placed in fourth in the early stages and the 9-4 favourite made noteworthy progress as they straightened for home, breezing into the lead approaching the furlong pole. Claiomh Solais (8-1) stayed on late, but was comprehensively outgunned by a length.

Weld, whose inmate was recording a fourth success from her last five starts, said: "That was a very pleasing performance from a very consistent filly.

"She'll have a little break now and we'll train her for the Matron Stakes (Leopardstown) and the Sun Chariot (Newmarket).

"That was a very competitive Group Three. In fact, it was probably closer to a Group Two in standard. This filly likes a bit of time between races and that's why we decided not to go Royal Ascot."
