Go for Grand day out at Brighton

Grandeur was unlucky to bump into a good one on his debut and should have no trouble in going one better in the British Stallion Studs/Hardings Catering EBF Median Auction Maiden Stakes at Brighton today.

Beaten by John Dunlop's Nawwaar at Goodwood, who is being talked of as a possible Classic candidate in some quarters, he lost absolutely nothing in defeat.

There are a couple of youngsters who have also shown plenty of ability in their short careers to date, but Jeremy Noseda makes a habit of winning races such as these.

Paul Hanagan is an intriguing booking for Cadgers Brig in the TurfTV Handicap at Musselburgh.

At first glance Keith Dalgleish's three-year-old looks a bit of a no-hoper. He has had three runs to date, with respective starting prices of 25-1, 14-1 and 66-1.

The nearest he has finished in any of those races is fifth, when beaten just over eight lengths at Wolverhampton most recently.

That was back in February over nine furlongs, and it looks significant that he is making his handicap debut over a mile and five off a lowly mark of 57. His dam is a half-sister to Barry Hills' smart stayer Tastahill so there is plenty of stamina in the pedigree, which bodes well, and he was staying on stoutly last time out.

He begins handicapping at a very lowly level and we are taking a bit of a punt that Dalgleish is expecting a big run by booking the champion jockey.

The pair are operating at a strike-rate of nearly 30% this season, however, so it bodes well. Hanagan could also be celebrating after Nicola's Dream runs in the East Lothian Pipers Handicap.
