Gutsy Forrest Prince gets off the mark at Gowran
Forrest Prince upset the odds in breaking his maiden tag at the second attempt at Gowran Park on Wednesday.
Patrick Prendergast's 28-1 chance only beat one horse home in a Curragh maiden 10 days ago but has improved markedly for that first racecourse appearance and was game out in front.
The son of Approve jumped well from stall one and galloped his rivals into submission thereafter, always holding the well-supported Mack Attack for a three-quarter-length success under an inspired Ronan Whelan.
Prendergast said: "He behaved badly at the Curragh. Chris (Hayes) thinks he got stage fright and he did everything wrong. He's a tough horse and Ronan said he still doesn't know what he's doing. Nothing else wanted to lead so he let him bowl along. It wasn't the plan.
"He'll go for the Sale before racing on Irish Champion Stakes day at Leopardstown."
