Injury sidelines Browne

Thegreatjohnbrowne is set for an easy month after picking up what trainer Noel Meade hopes is only a minor injury at Leopardstown on Tuesday.

Successful in his first two starts over fences at Punchestown, the gelding put in a bold effort from the front as 3-1 favourite for the Grade One Fort Leney Novice Chase and battled to the line to eventually finish fourth to Bostons Angel.

However, Meade said: "Unfortunately he has come home lame and he has a stress crack in a cannon-bone. There's no displacement and so in terms of injuries, it's one of the better ones to have."

The handler continued: "We felt something might be amiss as he didn't jump with his usual fluency despite running a very good race.

"They say that hopefully he will be able to start walking again in two weeks so we'll reassess him in a month."
