Down Royal Manager Mike Todd said yesterday he was delighted to hear that former Cheltenham Gold Cup Star - Kauto Star - would be likely to have his first run of the season at the Maze track on November 1.

Trainer Paul Nicholls has said that Kauto Star would be entered for the James Ncholson Champion Chase at the course.

The Gold Cup winner was due to reappear in the Betfair Chase at Haydock three weeks later but Nicholls stated that Kauto Star is "so well" he will be ready by the start of November. Nicholls said: "He is absolutely blooming so he will be one of possibly four entries I'll be making for Down Royal.

"I had Neptune Collonges earmarked as a possible for Down Royal but he is taking a while to come to himself."

Blame for this awful mess lies squarely with Capello

Unusually for Fabio Capello, a man who owns some highly valued pieces of art but is not given to too many flights of poetic fancy, he once said that he had a dream. It was right at the start of his England reign and it was that he would lead his team into the final of the World Cup in Johannesburg.
