Maarek and Adaay were the two defectors at the latest confirmation stage for the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville on Sunday.

The race sees the reappearance of Commonwealth and July Cup hero Muhaarar as he attempts to lay further claim to the champion sprinter award.

Other British and Irish challengers left in include Richard Hannon's Ivawood and Coulsty and the David O'Meara-trained Watchable.

Gordon Lord Byron and Majestic Queen fly the Irish flag in the absence of Maarek.

A ndre Fabre's Esoterique appears to be the leader for the home defence.
