Marnane banks on Boy to go distance
Trainer David Marnane expects the step back up in trip to suit Dandy Boy as he travels from Ireland for the totescoop6 EBF Guisborough Stakes at Redcar on Saturday.
The seven-year-old entire has not won since claiming the ultra-competitive Wokingham at Royal Ascot in June 2012, but he has since raced almost exclusively in Group company.
Given his advancing years, Marnane thinks stepping Dandy Boy back up to seven furlongs, a trip over which he was successful in Dubai in 2011, will be more in his favour.
"Even though he finished down the field the last day (10th at the Curragh in September) he was only beaten just over two lengths so he hasn't been running badly," said Marnane.
"It's a hot heat for Listed level but I think he'll go well.
"At his age, I think seven furlongs is probably his optimum trip these days, it should suit him more.
"I hope they don't get any rain there, he likes it quick."
Top Notch Tonto, taken out of the Cambridgeshire last week on account of the ground, heads the nine-runner field.
Caspar Netscher, who has run three good races in Group company since returning to the track in the summer, is also in contention for the David Simcock team.
