Murtagh cool over Knox Classic aim

Fort Knox

Connections of Fort Knox insist there is no hurry to decide upon his Classic target.

The three-year-old made a successful debut for trainer Tommy Carmody when running out a comfortable winner of the 2,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown on Sunday.

Previously a Newbury maiden winner for Richard Hannon, Fort Knox has a clutch of Classic entries, beginning with the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 4.

Jockey and assistant trainer Johnny Murtagh believes all options are still open for the Andrew Tinkler-owned colt, but they will take their time in deciding a target.

Murtagh told At The Races: "I spoke to Andrew last night and there's no real rush.

"He's in all the Guineas - the English, Irish and French - and we'll probably make a decision in the next couple of days.

"He's very straightforward, but I'd be hoping he'd go on better ground.

"He's small, but he's very sharp - probably a mile is as far as far he'd want to go."
