Murtagh hot prospect looks ready to Rock at Lingfield races

By Anita Chambers

Eddystone Rock can make a victorious British debut in the Betway Best Odds Guaranteed Plus Handicap at Lingfield today.

The five-year-old began his racing life in France before moving to Johnny Murtagh's yard in Ireland, where he made quite an impact last term. Eddystone Rock raced seven times for the Murtagh team and his three victories certainly make for a pleasing strike rate when combined with three other placed efforts.

He scored his first career success in a

n average Wexford maiden before running out a six-length winner of a Navan handicap and beating subsequent Listed score and Group Three second Laganore on his final start at Tipperary in August.

The Rock Of Gibraltar gelding won with a fair bit in hand that day so a 5lb rise to a mark of 100 does not seem overly harsh.

Now with John Best, Eddystone Rock has a high enough rating to make him a bit tricky to place, but this event looks an ideal starting point.
