Queen reigns in Limerick heat

Keppols Queen put up a gutsy frontrunning display to take Grade Three honours in the Kerry Group EBF Shannon Spray Mares Novice Hurdle at Limerick.

The Jessica Harrington-trained seven-year-old had Dalmatia for company throughout the two-mile contest before taking three lengths out of the field before the second-last flight.

Keppols Queen (6-1) maintained the gallop for jockey Robbie Power and strode away to score by five and a half lengths from 1-3 favourite Lyrical Theatre. Dalmatia was third.

Power said: "The drop back to two miles was not ideal, but I made it a test of stamina.

"She jumped super and has been improving all year. She needs that soft ground."
