Russell guides Bay to Troytown win

Tofino Bay (8-1) proved the second part of a treble a Navan double for owners Gigginstown House Stud and jockey Davy Russell when taking the Ladbrokes Troytown Handicap Chase.
The Dessie Hughes-trained gelding was always travelling well, not far off the pace set by Glenquest and Zardsky and when he took up the running at the second-last fence it looked as though he would win comfortably.
However, Tony McCoy produced Like Your Style with a strong challenge on the long run-in, along which Russell lost his whip, though Tofino Bay still proved up to the task as he held the runner-up by half a length.
They pulled clear of Glenquest in third and Jadanli fourth.
Hughes said: "He won a point-to-point, so he had a bit of experience over fences and both times he has run over them he jumped impeccable. The biggest thing about running him was the ground.
"There aren't too many horses like heavy ground and he actually likes it.
"He jumped really well on the first circuit and, coming past the stands with a circuit to go, you'd have to be happy with him.
"He'll run in a handicap over Christmas and, if the ground isn't too quick, the Irish National would be a race for him later on.
"There's definitely improvement in him. He didn't have that many runs over hurdles before he got hurt so he's a fresh enough horse."
