Leopardstown's big festival due to start on Sunday is under threat due to significant amounts of snow.
Hopes were high last weekend that the showpiece fixture would beat the weather but following the unexpected snowfall on Monday, an anticipated thaw is now due later than expected.
As a result, the course issued the following statement: "Following the heavy snowfall the track at Leopardstown is currently covered by four to five inches of snow and current weather predictions suggest that the thaw may not come as early as anticipated."
It went on: "Leopardstown General Manager Tom Burke expressed concerns about the track being raceable in time for racing on St. Stephen's day (December 26) if current conditions persist.
"The situation is being monitored on an ongoing basis and updates will be communicated regularly and will be available on the Leopardstown website www.leopardstown.com."
