Vocaliser something to shout about

Vocaliser got his season back on track in the Shelmalier Median Auction Race at Wexford.

The Jim Bolger-trained three-year-old had failed to beat a single rival home in two previous appearances this campaign but, such was his solid form last term, he still went off the 2-1 joint-favourite.

Kevin Manning was allowed to dictate terms to suit himself and had a willing partner, who stretched nicely clear when given the green light to put two and a quarter lengths between himself and Wider World at the line.

Manning said: "He's done that well. He popped and we were walking and he just got a bit keen and wanted to stride on a little bit, but he's done it well.

"I was very happy, he travelled well here up into the straight and you've just got to keep them going up the hill here off the bend, it takes a bit of climbing up into the straight."

Chris Hayes registered a double at Down Royal on Friday and carried on in much the same vein as Duke Of Medina (7-1) banished a lacklustre Leopardstown performance to the memory with a clear-cut triumph in the Shelbourne Handicap, while Liberty's Gift (9-2) landed the Scarawalsh Apprentice Handicap under Daniel Redmond.
