Wade has Hawk well primed to swoop at Wetherby

John Wade's Harris Hawk caught the eye first time out this season and can go well off bottom weight in the Yorkshire Post Ladies Evening - 29th May Handicap Chase at Wetherby today.

Third behind the progressive Sharney Sike on his last visit to the track, he lost his position in the final mile when he obviously blew up. That said, it was encouraging to see him stay on again as he was only just over four lengths adrift of the winner at the line.

That was a decent event and with that run under his belt he can be expected to improve.

Lady Of Verona should also be followed in the EBF/TBA Mares' Novices' Handicap Chase. Lucinda Russell's seven-year-old is winless from 12 tries, but she always had a look of a future chaser.

Her winter form over hurdles has not been too bad, too, with placed finishes at Hexham and at Kelso.

The mare goes particularly well in soft ground, something which would come in very handy in Yorkshire, and should also benefit from this drop in trip on her chasing bow.

Brave Buck might be worth an interest at a fair price in the Download The New RacingUK iPad App Handicap Hurdle.

Henry Daly's charge has seemingly failed to get home over three miles on his last two starts at Ascot and Haydock, but this shorter journey should help matters no end.

Memories of back-to-back autumnal victories at Ffos Las and Chepstow should not be forgotten for a horse who is in receipt of plenty of weight from most of the protagonists.

The soft-ground-loving Brave Buck has also been given a helping hand from the assessor, who has taken another 2lb off his back following his recent Haydock reverse.

Paul Nicholls' inmate Fairytale Theatre can win the EBF Stallions Mares' National Hunt Novices' Hurdle at Taunton.
