Co Tyrone road racer Ryan Farquhar has been returned to the intensive care unit of the Royal Victoria Hospital, it has been reported.

Farquhar was seriously injured last week after he and another rider were involved in a high-speed crash during the North West 200.

The Dungannon rider, who resumed road racing in 2014 after retiring in 2012, and Dan Cooper came off their bikes during the Supertwins race.

The Belfast Trust said Farquhar, 40, suffered chest and pelvic injuries.

He was released to a general ward of the Royal Victoria Hospital on Wednesday.

However he has since been returned to intensive care.

A spokesman for Belfast Trust said: “He has returned to ICU and he is seriously ill.”
