Age no barrier for Ards

The Ards IV team is made up mainly of veterans who have stepped down from more senior duties and since the team was formed in 2004 they have had some remarkable achievements.

They claimed the McCambley Cup four times and are the only side to have won it on three successive seasons 2005 to 2007 as well as being runners-up twice.

Neil Workman was one of the founders who decided to form a side to play in the Minor League in a more relaxed style.

"Players like Cyril Stocker, Stephen Bell, JD Gamble and Nigel Lynch continue to lead the charge and over the years they have been joined by other local personalities who moved to the locality," said Workman.

"Andrew Matchett, one of Ulster's 1999 heroes continues to direct the play from scrum-half and is ably assisted in the back row by Michael Higginson."

The Black Knights have had a solid start to this season's league campaign and are undefeated in Minor East 2 after a 39-8 success against CIYMS IV.
