Allen injury blow for Edinburgh

Edinburgh have suffered a pre-season blow after summer signing Michael Allen suffered a shoulder injury.

The 24-year-old former Ulster centre has had an operation and looks likely to miss the start of the Guinness Pro12 season, which kicks off for Edinburgh against Leinster on September 4.

A club statement read: "Further to a shoulder injury, centre Michael Allen underwent surgery last week at Spire Murrayfield (Hospital).

"He is now recuperating under the care of the Edinburgh Rugby medical team who will determine a return to play protocol in due course."
