Humphreys gears up for big finish

Friday, May 09, 2008

Emotions will be riding high at Ravenhill tonight as Ulster and Ireland legend David Humphreys leads out his beloved province for one last time.

Humphreys has shaken off an Achilles injury to win his 163rd cap for Ulster in the final Magners League clash of the season against Cardiff Blues.

And the 36-year-old out-half, who also won 72 caps for Ireland, is determined to go out on a winning note.

"I am probably going to be more nervous for this game than I have been for years," said Humphreys, ahead of what will be only his third start of the season.

"It has been an unbelievably frustating season and I would have loved to have been in a position when the team hasn't been going well to have made an impact.

"But now that I am fit again, I want to go out for one last time at Ravenhill and for the team to put in a performance.

"A number of us are playing our last game for Ulster and we all want to go out on a high for the guys who are staying. We want to finish this season the way Ulster want to start next season."
