Ulster rugby to stand up for charities
Thursday, 3 July 2008
While opposition at Ravenhill next season can expect little philanthropy on the pitch, Ulster's rugby stars are willing to lend a helping hand off it to raise money for three locally-based charities.
Ulster traditionally support the Irish Rugby Football Union's Charitable Trust, set up to assist seriously injured rugby players, but the Branch today also offered their services to local charities at the launch of their 'Charity Call to Action Campaign'. Any charity interested in securing the benefits should contact the Branch.
Each of the associated charities will receive an Ulster Rugby jersey signed by the team, 10 complimentary tickets for an Ulster Rugby home Magners League match of their choice, match programme editorial space to promote their cause, an Ulster Rugby website link to their homepage and a player appearance.
The Ulster Rugby squad will be responsible for choosing the three associated charities and "standing up" for the charitable causes throughout the 2008/09 season. Closing date for entries is Friday, August 8.
Meanwhile, the IRFU have announced their accounts broke even last season despite the loss of the autumn internationals because of the World Cup.
