The Blues claimed a thrilling 34-28 Super Rugby victory in Auckland that effectively ended the Waratahs' hopes in this season's competition.

Substitute George Moala's late try saw the Blues home following an earlier penalty try and touchdowns from Patrick Tuipulotu, Melani Nanai and Piers Francis, who also kicked three conversions and a penalty.

It meant the Blues finished their campaign on a winning note as they edged out their Australian opponents despite the Waratahs claiming two penalty tries and touchdowns by Israel Folau and Angus Ta'avao, with Bernard Foley booting four conversions.
