Burton to join Dragons

Newport Gwent Dragons have announced the signing of Italy Test fly-half Kristopher Burton.

Australia-born Burton, who has won 21 caps and featured in this season's RBS 6 Nations, will move to Rodney Parade from leading Italian team Treviso.

The 32-year-old is among four new recruits revealed by the RaboDirect PRO12 side following their recent acquisition of Wales scrum-half Richie Rees from Edinburgh. Joining Burton next season will be lock Martin Muller, who currently plays for South African side the Cheetahs, ex-Worcester number eight Netani Talei and Stade Francais prop Francisco Chaparro.

Burton, though, is the headline signing and Dragons head coach Darren Edwards said: "Any team that has played against Kris knows how influential he can be on a game with his goal-kicking and tactical awareness.

"Alongside the recruitment of Richie Rees, we now have a good blend of young and experienced half-backs.

"It gives us the opportunity to generate competition and allows us to create combinations that can be influential and exciting for the team."

Muller is a former South Africa Under-21 player, his fellow 30-year-old Talei, who has captained Fiji, is currently at Edinburgh and 23-year-old Chaparro was recently capped by Argentina against France and Italy.
