Former France international number eight Sebastien Chabal has revealed a breakdown in relations with coach Pierre Berbizier has led to his departure from Top 14 side Racing Metro.

Chabal revealed he was unhappy with the situation at the Paris club, telling a press conference: "I was not happy. The cause? Communication with Pierre Berbizier.

"It's the end of a long ordeal. It's the end of a long punishment."

Chabal had been looking to sign a contract extension with the club but admitted the final straw was when he could not reach agreement with club president Jacky Lorenzetti.

The 34-year-old, who began his career at Bourgoin and also played for Sale Sharks in the English Premiership, added: "I thank the president for allowing that things run as smoothly as possible so that we can move forward and rebuild the club and myself."

Chabal revealed he had not spoken to his Racing team-mates as they were on holiday.

"I have not seen anyone since they are on vacation. I have received text messages. I will tell them goodbye next week."

He revealed one regret upon his departure - not completing his playing contract at the club.

"I am disappointed not to finish a good player in Racing. But I want to look ahead and not behind."
