Chiefs too strong for Brumbies

The Chiefs moved to the top of the New Zealand Conference with a hard-fought 29-22 Super 15 win over the Brumbies.

The victory continued the Waikato franchise's unbeaten run at the Baypark Arena in Mount Maunganui, and it was an impressive display against a youthful Brumbies outfit.

Both fly-halves were outstanding with the boot, with Aaron Cruden kicking five penalties and two conversions for 19 points, while Christian Lealiifano converted all but one of his attempts for 17 points of his own.

Cruden and Lealiifano traded penalties in the first half to ensure the match was still alive in the second 40 minutes.

The Stormers continued their unbeaten start to the Super 15 season as Joe Pietersen kicked 17 points to earn them victory over the Blues at Newlands.

The hosts had to hold off a second-half fightback from their opponents, though, having led 25-3 at one stage.
