Smith thrilled as Gavin Rogers is appointed Inst coach

Instonians have made one of the signings of the winter by luring coach Gavin Rogers away from North Down.

Rogers has been coach at The Green for the last six years, the first Premier League club to appoint a non-playing coach, and he led them to a league and cup double in his first season and another Premier League success in 2011.

Last year, North Down finished second in the league, four points above Instonians, who were their beaten opponents in the Ulster Cup final.

New Instonians captain Nikolai Smith said: "He has worked with some of the guys through the (Northern) Knights program and comes with the highest recommendation of all the players who have worked with him before.

"We are all looking forward to the new ideas and challenges he will bring with him to Instonians."

Instonians have already announced former South Africa one-day international Rusty Theron as their professional for 2016 and having lost Zach Rushe to CIYMS are hoping to announce a replacement imminently.
