Cross loaned to Glasgow

Edinburgh Rugby have sent departing prop Geoff Cross to Glasgow Warriors on loan until the end of the season.

Edinburgh head coach Alan Solomons said veteran Cross, who moves to Glasgow as cover for injured tighthead props Mike Cusack and Ed Kalman, will leave Murrayfield when his current deal expires.

The Warriors are only one place short of securing a top-four play-off finish in the RaboDirect Pro 12 but looked short-handed in a crucial position before signing 31-year-old prop Cross.

Solomons said in a statement: "There comes a time in a player's career, especially when you've been at a club for a long period, that you realise you could benefit from something fresh and new, and Geoff has secured such an opportunity at a new club.

"He has been a great servant of Edinburgh Rugby for a number of years and we wish him all the very best."

Cross has made 130 appearances for Edinburgh since December 2006 and has represented Scotland 28 times in that period.

He said: "I've been an Edinburgh player for a long time now. I've made some good friends and shared in some special moments on the pitch.

"After eight years and aged 31, I think the time is right to seek a change and a new challenge.

"I'm very excited by this next chapter of my career."
