Johnny McNicholl's hat-trick helped the Crusaders to a remarkable 85-26 win over the Rebels in Super Rugby on Saturday.

Centre Ryan Crotty and hooker Codie Taylor scored twice apiece while Sam Whitelock, Scott Barrett, Alex Hodgman, Nemani Nadolo, Pete Samu and Matt Todd also crossed in a 13-try haul for the hosts. Richie Mo'unga converted seven of the tries and Nadolo three.

Nic Stirzaker, Reece Hodge, Culum Retallick and Sefa Naivulu scored for the Rebels, Jack Debreczeni with three conversions.

The Crusaders' 11th win in 14 games leaves them third in the Australasian group, with the Rebels eighth.
