Former England Saxons centre Dominic Waldouck is to join Aviva Premiership club Newcastle on trial.

Waldouck, who is currently playing for Ohio in America's inaugural Pro Rugby competition, will be with Newcastle throughout August, the Falcons announced.

The 28-year-old has had previous stints with Wasps, Northampton and London Irish, but his career has been hit by injuries.

"Dom is going to come on trial with us for a month to see how he goes," Newcastle rugby director Dean Richards told the club's official website.

" Dom has been on the Premiership circuit for a while - six or so years ago he was going to be the next big thing - but a couple of injuries have hampered his progression.

"He has now played two or three seasons without significant injury and seems to be back into the groove, so it could end up being an opportunity which suits both parties."
