England into cup quarter-finals

England were one of four teams to end day one of the Adelaide Sevens with a 100% record after claiming three wins out of three in Pool B.

They narrowly beat Argentina 21-19 to reach the Cup quarter-finals as winners thanks to two tries from Nick Royle and one from Oliver Lindsay-Hague.

The Pumas joined them in the last eight after two tries from Joaquin Todeschini helped them to a 22-7 win over Scotland earlier in the day.

Defending Adelaide champions Samoa ensured a clean sweep in Pool D by beating South Africa 26-17 as Reupena Levasa, Lolo Lui and Alafot Fa'osiliva fired the Pacific islanders into a 21-0 lead at half-time.

World Sevens series leaders New Zealand beat all their Pool A rivals, kicking off with a 36-10 win over Wales, while Fiji won a Pool C decider against hosts Australia.
