Flood out of Tigers' opener

Leicester fly-half Toby Flood will miss his club's Aviva Premiership opener against Worcester at Welford Road on Sunday.

The England international was concussed following a high tackle on him during last weekend's pre-season friendly victory over Ulster.

Flood, 28, subsequently underwent tests and scans at Leicester Royal Infirmary, which confirmed no further damage.

"He was concussed, but there are no broken bones and all the scans are clear, so that's all good," Leicester rugby director Richard Cockerill told the Leicester Mercury.

"We will stand him down for this weekend because on medical advice that was the right thing to do.

"We will integrate him back into rugby next week, and he may well play against Bath (on September 14).

If not, certainly against Newcastle the following weekend.

"We want our best players out on the field, but we will just get on with things without Toby."
