Gustard joins Saxons coaching staff

Saracens coach Paul Gustard is to join the England Saxons coaching team for their games against Ireland Wolfhounds and Scotland A in January.

Gustard, England senior squad defence specialist on their Argentina tour earlier this year, will link up with Saxons head coach Jon Callard and forwards coach Simon Hardy, the Rugby Football Union announced.

The Saxons face the Wolfhounds in Gloucester on January 25, followed by Scotland A in Glasgow six days later.

"Last summer's tour to Argentina suggested that English rugby is producing an exciting generation of talented players," Gustard said.

"It will be a privilege for me to continue working with many of these players when the Saxons gather at the end of January. I am grateful to the RFU and Saracens for creating this opportunity."

The RFU has also confirmed the reappointment of Nick Walshe and Ian Peel to lead England's Under-20 squad during this season's RBS 6 Nations and defence of the IRB Junior World Championship title in New Zealand next summer.

England head coach Stuart Lancaster said: "Having worked with Paul Gustard last summer I know the energy and expertise he will bring to his role with the Saxons, and I am looking forward to see Nick Walshe and Ian Peel build on their success this year."
