Belfast Harlequins took a step towards regaining the First Trust Ulster Senior League crown with a 12-0 victory over Banbridge at Deramore Park on Saturday.
Quins won the title in 2008 but relinquished it to Ballynahinch last season but this season Andy Ward’s men have won five out of six games played so far.
Saturday’s win over Banbridge gives Quins a three-point cushion at the top of the table with four games remaining.
Scrum half Michael Heaney scored all of Quins’ points with four successful penalties to condemn the Rifle Park club to a fifth consecutive Senior League defeat which leaves them rooted to the bottom of the table.
Heaney opened the scoring with his first successful kick in the seventh minute and he then doubled Quins’ half time |advantage to 6-0 when he landed a second penalty on 33 minutes.
Quins wrapped the game up with two more penalties in the second half.
Heaney added his third penalty on 50 minutes before sealing the win 11 minutes from the end with another well struck effort to keep them well on course for the title.
