Munster's All Blacks centre Francis Saili will be sidelined for up to four months after a second bout of shoulder surgery.

The club's rugby director Rassie Erasmus on Tuesday confirmed Saili's latest injury blow, which could see the 25-year-old miss Munster's first four Champions Cup pool fixtures.

Saili had shoulder surgery at the end of last season but was forced to go back under the knife to solve the problem.

"We got a setback with his shoulder," Erasmus told the Irish Examiner.

"He went in for a scope yesterday. There was some more repair work (needed).

"It's going to be an extended lay-off. It wasn't great news but it is what it is."

Munster start their pre-season fixture programme by hosting Italian outfit Zebre in Waterford on Friday night.

Munster confirmed in a statement that their Ireland Test stars will sit out the clash as they continue their phased integration following the summer South Africa tour.
