Ireland's Garry Ringrose scored a superb second try
Ireland's Garry Ringrose scored a superb second try

ROB KEARNEY: Little opportunity to influence the game after being forced off inside 12 minutes for a head injury assessment. 5/10

ANDREW TRIMBLE: Strong display before he had to be replaced with just over half an hour played due to an ankle problem. 6

JARED PAYNE: A doubt before the match but managed a brilliant first-half performance before unfortunately being forced off at the break. 7

GARRY RINGROSE: Fantastic feet and pace to slip through and score Ireland's second try after picking up a loose pass from Conor Murray. 8

KEITH EARLS: Excellent collection of Simon Zebo's grubber kick and subsequent sidestep to set up Iain Henderson. In the right place to finish off some sustained pressure and put Ireland back ahead. 7

PADDY JACKSON: Kept his composure to calmly kick a pair of penalties and three conversions but a little wayward with some of his punts in open play and some poor decision-making. 5

CONOR MURRAY: Had little influence on the game and was quite wasteful with possession. Sloppy pass inadvertently turned into a try for Ringrose. 5

JACK McGRATH: Taken off with just under 20 minutes remaining following a sturdy but unspectacular display. 6

RORY BEST: A solid performance from the skipper on the occasion of his 100th cap. Produced a timely tackle to prevent Reece Hodge sprinting clear for a try just before the interval. 7

TADHG FURLONG: Bruising runs to ease the pressure on Ireland after shrugging off a dangerous tackle from Dean Mumm which saw the Australian flanker sin-binned. 7

IAIN HENDERSON: Produced tremendous strength to power over for Ireland's opening try after being put in by Earls. Replaced 15 minutes into the second period. 6

DEVIN TONER: Won the ball back superbly late on to take the pressure off his side as they successfully held on to their slender advantage. 6

CJ STANDER: Tremendous overall performance. Displayed fantastic strength and produced some excellent early carries to haul his side up field. 8

JOSH VAN DER FLIER: Never stopped and deservedly named man of the match. 8

JAMIE HEASLIP: Anonymous for parts of the game and ineffectual overall performance before being replaced. 5

REPLACEMENTS: (5) - A number of enforced changes following injuries to Kearney, Trimble and Payne. Simon Zebo, on for Kearney, poorly sliced a couple of kicks but played a part in his side's first try. Kieran Marmion , a replacement for Payne, came inside too early ahead of Australia's second try, allowing Tevita Kuridrani to touch down. Joey Carbery, Ultan Dillane, Peter O'Mahony and Cian Healy produced solid cameo appearances, while Finlay Bealham and Sean Cronin were introduced too late to have much impact.
