Jack Debreczeni's sixth penalty of the match proved decisive as t he Melbourne Rebels held off a second-half comeback to secure a 25-23 Super Rugby victory over the Reds on Saturday.

The hosts stormed into a 16-0 lead in the first half-hour thanks to a Jonah Placid try, with Debreczeni adding the conversion and three penalties. Nick Frisby's 34th-minute score - Jake McIntyre added the extras and slotted penalty two minutes before the break - helped get the visitors back to 16-10.

Debreczeni slotted two more from the tee early in the second half, before Queensland hooker Andrew Ready touched down. McIntyre was successful with the conversion - either side of further penalties - to edge the Reds ahead at 22-23.
