Leicester-bound JP Pietersen ran in a try in his final home game for the Sharks as they defeated the Sunwolves 40-29 in Durban to advance to the quarter-finals of Super Rugby.

Pietersen, who will move to the Tigers at the conclusion of this season after a decade with the Sharks, crossed for the 39th time in Super Rugby to add to tries from Coenie Oosthuizen, Lwazi Mvovo, Andre Esterhuizen, Garth April and Curwin Bosch.

Despite a pair of tries from Mifiposeti Paea and further scores from Kaito Shigeno and Faatiga Lemalu, the Sunwolves were unable to stop the Sharks securing a wild-card berth ahead of the Bulls.
