Cheetahs survived a second-half recovery by Western Force as a late penalty from Fred Zeilinga secured a 30-29 victory in their Super Rugby encounter at the Free State Stadium i n Bloemfontein.

The hosts had opened up a 27-10 lead at half-time following tries from Paul Schoeman, Uzair Cassiem, Clayton Blommetjies and Sergeal Petersen, before the Force rallied with 19 unanswered points including two tries for Dane Haylett-Petty to go in front for the first time.

However, with just three minutes left, Zeilinga booted Cheetahs back in front and the South African side held out for victory, but only after a long-range kick from Force fly-half Peter Grant fell short.
