Gloucester's Scotland international scrum-half Rory Lawson is unlikely to play again this season after undergoing groin surgery.
The Aviva Premiership club confirmed Lawson required an operation to repair damage suffered during the recent league game against leaders Harlequins at Kingsholm.
Lawson, 30, was forced off during the first half of that game when he twisted awkwardly as he was cleared out of a ruck. He is now expected to be sidelined for up to 12 weeks.
Lawson was assessed by Gloucester's medical team and sent for further scans with a specialist. He had surgery on Wednesday.
