Lions beat Kings in first leg play-off

The Lions hold the advantage in a two-legged Super 15 promotion/relegation play-off after beating Southern Kings 26-19 in Port Elizabeth.

The Kings - who took a losing bonus point - must win in Johannesburg on August 3 to book their place in the 2014 Super Rugby campaign after two tries from Stokkies Hanekom and 16 points from the boot of Elton Jantjies gave the Lions a first-leg lead.

Marcello Sampson and replacement Steven Sykes got over for the Kings but three penalties from Demetri Catrakilis were not enough to reign in the Ellis Park outfit, who lost their Super 15 status last year.
