Malone Fifths fall to first loss

Malone Fifths suffered their first Minor East 2 defeat of the season when, after leading 19-3, they lost at Ballynahinch Sevenths 29-19.

The turning point came when Malone had two players binned at the same time.

The visitors were helped by some Hinch errors with their three tries which were well taken. Outside centre Ben Siri carved through for the first before flanker Cathal McSorley broke out of defence to run in from 60 metres out for Chris Shaw to convert.

He was also on target a few minutes later when winger Wayne McCormick crossed close to touch.

With Malone down to 13 men Hinch were soon reducing the gap and, following a Joel Callaghan penalty, their forwards dominated.

Winger Terry Hilland started the comeback with further tries coming from Jonny Wilson and full-back David Marshall. With a few minutes remaining Wilson broke through a few tackles to score while Callaghan goaled the last three.
