Marcel Brache scored a hat-trick as Western Force returned to winning ways to end a seven-match losing streak in Super Rugby with a 40-22 victory over Japan's Sunwolves at Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium.

The Australians outscored Sunwolves by six tries to four after the hosts had taken the lead with Brynard Stander, Ben McCalman and Angus Cottrell also crossing for the visitors and Ian Prior and Peter Grant adding the extras.

Akihito Yamada, on his return from injury for Sunwolves, scored the opening try after three minutes and added a second with team-mates John Stewart and Derek Carpenter adding one apiece as they were leapfrogged by their opponents and dropped to 17th in the overall standings.
