McCarthy handed two-week ban

Mike McCarthy

Connacht flanker Mike McCarthy was handed a two-week ban for his dangerous tackle on Toulouse wing Vincent Clerc in the Irish side's 36-10 Heineken Cup defeat in Galway on November 19.

McCarthy pleaded guilty to the charge and his offence was found to be at the low end of the level of seriousness, with an entry point suspension of two weeks.

A week was added to the recommended ban after considering McCarthy's disciplinary record, but was then removed due to his guilty plea and good conduct at the hearing.

An ERC statement added: "McCarthy will be available to play on Thursday, December 8 2011."

McCarthy and ERC have the right to appeal the decision.
