Ospreys leave out Phillips

Unsettled Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips has been left out of the Ospreys' match-day 23 for their Magners League clash against Newport Gwent Dragons on Friday night.

Ospreys coaching chief Scott Johnson confirmed on Wednesday that 51 times-capped Phillips will be allowed to leave the Swansea-based region once he finds another club.

Johnson said this followed repeated requests by Phillips, whose existing Ospreys contract does not expire until 2014, to head elsewhere.

He has been strongly linked with a move to France - European champions Toulouse are understood to be interested in signing him - potentially following Ospreys colleagues Lee Byrne and James Hook, who have signed for Clermont Auvergne and Perpignan, respectively.

Rhys Webb will continue in the Ospreys' number nine shirt at Rodney Parade, with Tom Isaacs providing scrum-half bench cover.

And Phillips does not feature among a list of 12 Ospreys players currently unavailable through injury, suggesting Johnson and his coaching staff are already planning for life without him.
