Waisake Naholo scored two tries on his return from a broken leg as reigning Super Rugby champions Highlanders beat Chiefs 26-13 at Waikato Stadium.

Naholo touched down twice in the second half after prop Daniel Lienert-Brown went under the posts for the Dunedin-based side 10 minutes before the interval. Lima Sopoaga added three penalties and Marty Banks slotted over a conversion.

Aaron Cruden's eight-point haul was not enough as the Chiefs lack of discipline cost them with Charlie Ngatai and Ma'ama Vaipulu going into the sin-bin for a dangerous tackle and hands in the ruck respectively before Sam Vaka scored a late consolation try.
