Newcastle have confirmed that scrum-half Chris Pilgrim will not play again this season.
Pilgrim, who joined Newcastle from Nottingham in 2009, tore knee ligaments during the Falcons' Championship victory over London Scottish last weekend.
"I was really excited to continue my form into the rest of the campaign, and I am really disappointed to be out for the season," Pilgrim, 26, said.
"These things happen in rugby and my aim is to come back stronger and better than before.
"I will now undergo a six-month rehabilitation programme and I will be around the club to offer help and support wherever I can."
