We've lost our special fan

Ulster ace Pienaar dedicates victory to memory of loyal Jamie

By Jonathan Bradley

Ulster's superstar player has paid the ultimate tribute to the team's super-fan.

Heartbroken Ruan Pienaar last night hailed Jamie Donaldson as Ulster's special supporter and insisted they won their match against Cardiff Blues on Saturday for the Dromore man.

Loyal fan Jamie, who was confined to a wheelchair, sadly passed away in hospital just 24 hours before the Guinness Pro12 League match in the Welsh capital.

Pienaar conceded Les Kiss's men were inspired to victory with memories of Jamie's amazing support for Ulster fresh in their memory and all the players wore black armbands as a mark of respect.

"It's a massive loss and we'll give this one to Jamie. He was a special supporter," stated the South African, who also revealed that the Ulster players heard about Jamie's death at the airport on their way to Cardiff.

"What he went through over the years to watch and support us has been incredible and it's very sad to lose someone like that. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his mum, dad, and the rest of the family."

Ulster's bonus point win - 35-22 - brought to an end a run of three straight defeats in the Pro12.
