The Melbourne Rebels have confirmed they are investigating an alleged "incident" between two players on the team bus following their record 64-7 Super 15 loss to the Sharks in Durban on Saturday.

There was an alleged altercation between winger Cooper Vuna and the injured Kurtley Beale, with the former claming on Twitter, in a message which was later deleted, that Beale had punched him.

"I need to leave right now, this ain't for me! I tried to help someone but got punched so instead of putting him in hospital il leave!" Vuna posted on his Twitter account.

The Rebels released a statement, confirming the club would look into the matter.

"The Melbourne Rebels would like to respond to reports of an incident between players following the team's bus trip home to their hotel in Umhlanga," the statement read.

"The club is treating this matter as serious and a full internal investigation has begun with the players involved.

"Therefore, the club cannot provide any further comment until the internal investigation is completed.

"The club will be fully co-operative to any media request as per the club's media policy at the conclusion of this investigation. No other parties were involved."
